Michael is a principal and founder of Aquo and leads the charge with startup and high-growth client initiatives. His work with clients focuses on strategic product development, the application of lean and agile principles to manage the development effort, ensure the fit between business requirements and feature definition, and improve usability. A startup geek at heart, he thrives on moving interesting ideas from the whiteboard to the world. His passions include simplifying complexity, understanding business needs and building happy teams that deliver great software.
Since 1996, Michael has been starting and managing rapid-growth technology businesses with an emphasis on Internet, communications, wireless and software ventures. He has participated in the founding, development, financing and management of several early-stage technology companies, including officer and board-level positions.
In 1999, he co-founded and was the VP, Business Development and General Counsel of Rent.com (acquired by NASDAQ:EBAY). Former client companies include In-Sync Interactive, GreenlightJobs.com, FlyFone and Pacific Media Ventures. He has participated in early stage investments including CiviData, Manzama, Internet Brands (NASDAQ:INET), HiMax, GoMed and he is an investor and active participant in the Bend Venture Conference.
When he’s not helping clients build products, Michael likes to pay it forward. He is a founding mentor of FoundersPad, a startup accelerator based in Bend, Oregon. He is active in the Ruby open source software community as a founder and organizer of the Ruby on Ales conference. Michael has an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of California, Irvine and a Juris Doctorate degree from the McGeorge School of Law.
